Moringa oleifera Leaf powder
Antioxidant: The majority of the antioxidant research for Moringa is animal based.
Numerous animal models have been utilized to show significant antioxidant activity
in tissues including the eye [28], bladder [29], testes [30-31], brain [32-33], liver [34-37],
kidney [38], pancreas [39], and heart [40].
Anti-inflammatory: While not as well cited, there is some evidence in animal models
of Moringa’s anti-inflammatory activity [28, 41-42].
Oregano extract powder
Antioxidant: In a Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the antioxidant
capacity of oregano, one study was found that focused on the significant
hepatoprotective effects of oregano extract in rats due to its antioxidant capacity [43].
Anti-inflammatory: In a Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the
anti-inflammatory activity of oregano, no results were found.
Rosemary extract powder
Antioxidant: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the antioxidant
capacity of rosemary revealed no publications focusing on human trials. In animal
studies, however, rosemary was shown to have significant activity protective effects
in models using the kidney [44], liver [45], pancreas [46], and nervous system [47]
due to its antioxidant activity.
Anti-inflammatory: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the
anti-inflammatory capacity of rosemary revealed no publications focusing on
human trials. In animal studies, rosemary extracts where shown to be potent
anti-inflammatory agents with significant activity in numerous models of
inflammation [48-50].
It should be noted that many of these extracts contained the diterpenes carnosic
acids. With this in mind it may be warranted to utilize these compounds as
biomarkers in the rosmarinic acid extract validation.
Piperine
In the majority of the literature related to piperine, both in antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory searches, the focus relied on piperine’s ability to attenuate
known anti-inflammatories such as curcumin.
MORINGO NUTRAMATRIX INGREDIENT FACTS
organics
Antioxidant: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the antioxidant
capacity of piperine revealed no publications focusing on human trials. In animal
studies, however, piperine was shown to significantly reduce oxidative stress in
models of arthritis [51] and gastric inflammation [52].
Anti-inflammatory: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the
anti-inflammatory capacity of piperine revealed no publications focusing on human
trials. In animal studies, however, piperine was shown to significantly reduce
inflammation in models of arthritis [51], cardio-metabolic disease [53], and
Parkinson’s [54].
Pomegranate extract powder
Antioxidant: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the antioxidant
capacity of pomegranate extract revealed no publications focusing on human
trials. In animal studies, however, pomegranate extract was shown to significantly
reduce oxidative stress in models of neurotoxicity [55-56], bone marrow changes [57],
hepatotoxicity [58], ototoxicity [59-60], and nephrotoxicity [61].
Anti-inflammatory: A Pubmed search of animal and human studies of the
anti-inflammatory capacity of pomegranate extract revealed no publications
focusing on human trials. In animal studies, however, polyphenol rich pomegranate
extracts were shown to significantly reduce inflammation in animal models of GI
inflammation [62], and cardio-metabolic inflammation [63].
Shilajit Extract powder
Antioxidant: In a search for human and animal studies focusing on Shilajit extract
and antioxidant capacity, no articles where found for support
Anti-inflammatory: In a search for human and animal studies focusing on Shilajit
extract and anti-inflammatory capacity, no articles where found for support.
Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin
Antioxidant: In a search for human and animal studies focusing on
methylcobalamin and antioxidant capacity, a meta-analysis of methylcobalamin
and its use in diabetic neuropathy with a co-antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid, was
found. The meta-analysis points to the neuroprotective effect of the two
supplements via reduction of oxidative stress [64]. An animal model of nerve injury
with subsequent healing times and functional restoration in rodents had similar results
of methylcobalamin’s antioxidant capacity and oxidative stress modulating
capacities [65].

Anti-inflammatory: A search for human and animal studies focusing on
methylcobalamin and anti-inflammatory capacity found one animal article
focusing on anti-inflammatory capabilities of B12 after nerve injury and during
rehabilitation. The study’s findings showed that Methylcobalamin alone was able to
increase the speed of recovery after nerve transfer in rats [66]. The anti-inflammatory
activity is most likely linked to methylcobalamin’s role in decreasing oxidative stress
in nerve tissue.
Vitamin C ascorbic acid
Antioxidant: In a search for human and animal studies focusing on vitamin C and
antioxidant capacity, 29,711 publications were found [67]. This search proves that
vitamin C has had a long standing relationship with redox chemistry in the body. In
a recent pilot study of hemodialysis patients, those who underwent vitamin C
therapy showed marked improvements in their antioxidant status [68]. In a second
human trial looking at exercise and lipid profile changes, the authors’ findings
showed a significant reduction in ROS production with exercise paired with
vitamin C intake [69]. Lastly, in a newer animal study, vitamin C was shown to
significantly alter acute stress responses, which in turn diminished alterations in
endocrine hormones, specifically cortisol and testosterone, both of which can be
altered in stress reactions [70]
Anti-inflammatory: A search was done for human and animal studies focusing on
vitamin C and anti-inflammatory capacity. No human or animal study was
performed that was not a mix of vitamin C with other ingredients such as herbal
extracts, pharmaceuticals such as diclofenac, and antioxidant nutrients like zinc
and vitamin A.
